2000 UNZA STUDENTS GET BURSARIES

The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB) has awarded student loans to 2,000 eligible first-year students at the University of Zambia-UNZA for the 2022/2023 academic year.

HELSB Senior Corporate Communications Officer, Chiselwa Kawanda, notes that the institution received 4,515 applications for sponsorship at UNZA.

Kawanda notes that out of the number, 4,075 applicants were eligible while 440 were not, representing 90 percent and 40 percent, respectively.

She explains that the ineligible applicants are because of completing Grade 12 before 2018, non-attachment of required documents to the student loan application, being older than 24 years of age and having 2021 academic year admission letters.

Kawanda states that HELSB received 13 applications from students with disabilities, being 11 male and 2 female, representing 0.3 percent of the total applicants.

She says that of the 4,515 applicants, 2,433 are female while 2, 082 are male representing, 54% and 46% respectively.

Kawanda adds that 2,212 are from rural areas while 2,203 are urban based, representing 51% and 49% respectively.
