GCE EXAM NATIONAL FAILURE RATE INCREASES

Education Minister Douglas Syakalima has disclosed that the 2021 General Certificate of Education -GCE- examination has recorded an increase in the national failure rate from 10.50 percent in 2020 to 13.66 percent in 2021.

Addressing the media in Lusaka this morning, Mr. Syakalima says 16, 960 out of 124, 171 candidates failed the examination and analysis of performance by subject revealed that the highest percentage score was recorded in French at 75.79 percent, while mathematics recorded the lowest at 18. 24 percent.

Mr. Syakalima notes that out of 124, 171 candidates who sat for the 2021 GCE examination, 102,715 obtained the GCE statement of results and 4,496 obtained GCE school certificates.

He has further advised the public that SMS result notification will be accessible effective Friday 5th November and e statements of results will be available on ECZ portal effective Monday 8th November 2021.

At the same briefing, Examination Council of Zambia -ECZ- Director Michael Chilala has reported that there were no leakages of examination question papers during the 2021 GCE exam.
