TRYING to be a good neighbour has landed a 19-year-old man of North-Western Province a possible life imprisonment sentence for allegedly killing a 59-year-old man of the same area who he heard proposing love to his 15-year-old grand daughter.
Steward Kikwaba allegedly proposed love to his granddaughter Olipa Kabwita, which angered Alex Mwanaumo who hit him with a stick leading to his death as he sustained head injuries among others.
North-Western Province commanding officer Davies Moola said police received a case of murder which occured on Thursday around 22:00 hours.
Mr Moola said the deceased who was hit on the left arm and neck also sustained a cut on the right side of the head and died as he was being taken to the hospital.
“Brief facts of the matter are that on February,2nd, 2023
at around 22:00hours the deceased Steward Kikwaba was on his way after a drinking spree at kankolonko bars with others,” he said.
Mr Moola said upon reaching kikute village along Kasempa-Solwezi road a fight ensued between the deceased and the suspect when the deceased started proposing to his granddaughter.
“This angered the suspect who hit the deceased with a stick on the left arm and on the head and he fell on the tarmac and sustained a cut on the right side of the head. Later he died whilst being taken to mukinge hospital at around 01:50 hours at kafumfula area along Kasempa solwezi road,” he said.
