ACC WARNED AGAINST WASTING THE COURT’S TIME

Lusaka Magistrate Silvia Munyinya has warned the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against wasting the court’s time by failure to avail witnesses.
This is in a matter in which former Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo and his wife, Wanziya are accused of possessing properties worth over K29 million suspected to be proceeds of crime.
When the matter came up for commencement of trial, the state made an application for an adjournment, claiming that their witnesses are out of town.
But the application angered Magistrate Munyinya who says the state was given enough time to secure witnesses for trial to commence.
The Magistrate has since advised the investigative wing to withdraw the charges against the accused if they are not ready to proceed to trial.
