ACTIVIST OPPOSES HICHILEMA’S CALL FOR CHIEFS’ INVOLVEMENT IN RECRUITMENT

Human Rights Activist, Maiko Zulu, has opposed President Hakainde Hichilema’s suggestion to consult traditional leaders during the civil service recruitment process.

Zulu argues that job opportunities should be based on professional qualifications rather than equity based on an individual’s origin.

He believes that traditional leaders should only be engaged after the recruitment process to supervise those deployed in their chiefdoms, ensuring they perform according to their job descriptions.

During the Chibwela Munshi traditional ceremony of the Lala and Swaka speaking people over the weekend, President Hichilema emphasized the need to consult chiefs during the job recruitment process to ensure their subjects are not excluded.

  1. I fully agree with Michael Zulu, that it will be wrong to involve the chiefs in recruitment exercises because to start with they are not trained in that area, if they are allowed, they will interfere with professional work that is supposed to be undertaken and those that are charged with the responsibility of recruiting will correctly fold their arms and refuse any negatives that will come out by saying they were not in charge. This will create confusion even if it is a way of showing that you want inclusiveness, give them another role but not this one, because from what I see we have both reasonable and unreasonable chiefs and that is a fact.
