Akon Says Lady Gaga made him enough money to ‘pretty much retire’ after he signed her

Akon signed Lady Gaga when she was still struggling to make it in the music industry. Just THREE YEARS later, he admitted she’d made him so much money that he could practically retire.

And it all started because he saw something in her that others had overlooked.

Back in 2007, Lady Gaga was still an aspiring artist trying to break into the mainstream.

She had already been dropped by Def Jam Records, and her future in music was far from guaranteed.

But Akon recognised her potential.

After hearing her talent, he convinced Interscope executive Jimmy Iovine to bring her under his KonLive label.

It would become one of the most successful decisions of his career.

In 2008, Gaga released her debut album, The Fame, featuring hits including Just Dance, Poker Face and Paparazzi.

The album transformed her from an unknown artist into an international superstar.

By February 2010, her success had become so financially rewarding for Akon that he made an extraordinary admission to the Associated Press.

“She’s pretty much retired me.”

He went on to describe Gaga as a blessing, explaining how grateful he was that he’d trusted his instincts.

“I’m glad I believed in her, boy. That goes to show you, if you believe in something strong enough, it will pay off.”

And he wasn’t exaggerating about her potential.

Gaga would go on to become one of the biggest pop stars of her generation, selling millions of records and building an extraordinary career.

But what makes this story particularly interesting is the business lesson behind it.

Akon didn’t just focus on making money through his own music.

He recognised another person’s talent, gave them an opportunity and benefited from their success.

Sometimes the greatest investment you can make isn’t in something you create yourself.

It’s in someone whose potential you recognise before the rest of the world catches on.
