ALLEGED WITCHES ADVOCATE WRITES TO HH
Leo Igwe a PhD holder in Religious Studies who is Director, Advocacy for Alleged Witches has written to Zambian Leader President Hakainde Hichilema (HH).
In a letter below which Dr Igwe has also availed to Zambian Eye News says the Advocacy for Alleged Witches are outraged by the cases of victims of witch persecution in Zambia.
President Hakainde Hichilema
State House
Lusaka, Zambia
Your Excellency,
I am writing on behalf of the Advocacy for Alleged Witches to draw your attention to the practice of Chikondo and witch hunting in Zambia. As explained in this article, Chikondo is a harmful traditional practice that is widespread in some parts of Zambia. According to the police in Zambia this practice has led to the death of 9 persons since last year including Mr Nduati who was thrown into the grave and buried alive. We recall that in 2021, the UN passed a resolution urging member states to take measures to combat abuses and violations linked to witchcraft beliefs.
At the Advocacy for Alleged Witches, we are outraged by the case of Mr Nduati and other victims of witch persecution in Zambia. We are appealing to you to use your good office and ensure an end to the practice of Chikondo and witch hunting in Zambia.
Thanks in anticipation of your intervention.
Sincerely
Leo Igwe PhD Religious Studies (Bayreuth)
Director, Advocacy for Alleged Witches
