ARREST RISING COST OF LIVING – KATEKA

By Pesulani Mwale

New Heritage Party President, Chishala Kateka, has urged government to adopt an approach that will aim at simultaneously addressing the economic fundamentals to arrest the rising cost of living.

Kateka explains that basics like fuel prices, currency exchange rate, as well as electricity availability and affordability must be prioritized with the same emphasis as they are equally important and interrelated.

She has since bemoaned the high cost of products such as fuel and mealie-meal, submitting that the export of maize to Kenya and Tanzania by the Food Reserve Agency might have contributed to the high cost of the latter, with an average 25KG bag selling at K200.

Kateka says her party has developed what it calls an Economic Solar System Model, which focuses on ensuring that fundamentals affecting the country’s pricing model are well managed.

She calls for prudent sharing of national resources, stating that no particular sector must be left out in the transformation agenda as they mutually benefit from each other.
