President Lazarus Chakwera has delegated former president and Malawi’s first president in the multiparty democracy Bakili Mluzi to represent him at the funeral of Zambia’s former president Rupiah Bwezani Banda who died on Friday March 11.

In a statement from the ministry of foreign affairs made available to The Maravi Post government of the republic of Zambia has declared seven days of national mourning from March 12-18, 2022.

There will be a state funeral for the late president at Lusaka showground on Thursday, 17th March 2022, starting from 10:00 hours.

The late president will be laid to rest at the presidential Burial site in Lusaka on Friday, 18th March 2022.

The statement also states that Bakili Muluzi is expected to depart Malawi on Wednesday 16th March, 2022 and return home on 19th March 2022.

Meanwhile, President Chakwera has however conveyed a message of condolence to Zambia President Hakainde Hichilema, bereaved family and Zambian people on the passing of Rupia Banda.
