Barcelona deleted a farewell statement for João Félix and João Cancelo, as they still hope to re-sign the Portuguese duo, a source has revealed
On Sunday, Barça initially thanked Marcos Alonso, Félix, and Cancelo for their time with the club as their respective deals concluded.
Alonso’s contract has expired, making him a free agent, while Félix and Cancelo’s loans from Atlético Madrid and Manchester City, respectively, ended on June 30.
However, the club later removed Félix and Cancelo’s names from the statement and social media posts.
A source explained that the deletions were because Barça intends to extend their stays, and the original statement suggested their departures were final.
Félix, who netted 10 goals in 44 appearances for Barça last season, returns to Atlético, while Cancelo, with 42 appearances, goes back to Manchester City.
Both players are currently with Portugal at Euro 2024.
Despite this, Barça remains in ongoing discussions with the duo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, while awaiting clarity on the club’s financial situation this summer.
