BENEFICIARIES MISAPPLYING CDF AFTER DOING THINGS DIFFERENT FROM SUBMITTED PROPOSALS

Choma’s Nchembe Ward Councilor in Mbabala Constituency, Herbert Moonze, says the civic leadership in the area has failed to monitor the implementation of Constituency Development Fund-CDF grants.
Moonze narrates through Byta FM News that most Cooperatives that got empowerment funds did not do what they planned for in their proposals.
The Civic Leader observes that the problem is common across the constituency, with a number of Cooperatives diverting the grants to purchase of farming inputs.
Moonze says that Cooperatives that diverted grants to other uses other than what they proposed have been asked to return the funds so that they can start afresh and to do the right thing.
And Zambia Corruption Prevention Watchdog Director, Jonathan Muchindu, says is it unfortunate that some people are not utilizing the funds as they should well.
Muchindu notes that accountability of funds is important, stating that institutions such as the International Monetary Fund-IMF, who have given Zambia a bailout package, will demand to know how public resources are being utilized.
IMF Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva, and her team are in Zambia to discuss various issues, among them, debt restructuring.
