BRITAIN AND FRANCE LEAD FIRST MAJOR EXERCISE FOR UKRAINE SUPPORT FORCE

Around 2,800 personnel from 11 nations will take part in Exercise Koalicja from 9–22 November, testing preparations to support Ukraine once the fighting ends

Jointly led by Britain and France, the exercise will rehearse how to move, protect and supply the Multinational Force Ukraine. Britain is contributing 300 personnel, RAF Typhoon fighters and a Voyager refuelling aircraft, with ground training taking place in Poland.

The drills will test whether forces from different countries can operate together, maintain communications and keep personnel supplied. The proposed force would help rebuild Ukraine’s military and support safer skies and seas, strengthening its ability to deter renewed Russian aggression.

Deployment would follow an end to fighting and require an invitation from Ukraine’s government. Its stated role would support Ukraine’s long-term defence rather than monitor a ceasefire.

A lasting peace needs the practical means to protect it. These preparations are a step toward turning commitments into a force capable of supporting Ukraine’s future security.
