MOTSEPE, ALMEIDA MOURN CHAVUMA ACCIDENT VICTIMS…Five Evacuated to Lusaka for Special Treatment

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Council for Southern African Football Association (Cosafa) have mourned the death of the seven players that died in a tragic road accident in Chavuma on their way to fulfilling a league match.

In separate letters of condolences to the FAZ boss Andrew Kamanga, CAF president Patrice Motsepe and his Cosafa counterpart Artur de Almeida e Silva extended their commiserations to the families and the Zambian football community.



“It is with profound sadness that I learned of the tragic road accident that claimed lives and severely injured members of the Chavuma Town Council Football Club who were on their way to a North Western Province Division One League match,” reads Motsepe’s tribute.
“Please pass my personal and CAF’s deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased and the Football Association of Zambia.

The Cosafa chief said, “The loss of young lives in such a manner is truly heartbreaking, and our thoughts and prayers are with those who are still receiving treatment for their injuries.”
“Please know that Cosafa stands with the Football Association of Zambia, the Chavuma Town Council and the community of Chavuma as you navigate through this difficult period.”



Meanwhile five of the 12 injured have been evacuated to Lusaka for special treatment.

The accident that occurred on Saturday claimed seven lives with 12 surviving with critical injuries.

Nineteen people were on board the quantum bus belonging to Chavuma Town Council that overturned between Lukhunyi and Ndondo area enroute to Mufumbwe for a Week 8 North Western Province Division One match between Chavuma Town Coucil and Mufumbwe Marketeers.
