THE Copperbelt University and Academics Union (CBUAU) has rejected a 4 to 5 percent salary increment.

The Union is now demanding for not less than 12 percent increment across board.

Union General Secretary, Willie Ngosa says his Union had resolved to reject the offer and instead demand for an upward adjustment to atleast 12 percent increment.

“Following the General Meeting that was held on 15th March 2022 to update our members on the outcome of the 2022 negotiations for Improved Salaries and Conditions of Service, we write to inform your office that the General Meeting resolved as follows: The meeting unanimously resolved to reject your salary increment offer of between 4 percent to 5 percent especially that there was no salary increment in the year 2021. That the CBUAU is demanding for a salary increment of at least 12% across the board,” a letter signed by Ngosa stated.

According to Ngosa, the union resolved to further, gather and protest against management’s decision to award them 4 to 5 percent.

This action is in order to put pressure on management to rescind its decision to award workers the pay rise of between 4 and 5 percent.

“The meeting also resolved that effective Monday, 21st March 2022, all unionized academic members of staff will be gathering at the graduation square to protest against management’s salary increment offer because it is a mockery to academic staff who are in essence the core business of the University,” stated Ngosa.
