CHASEFU MAN MURDERED FOR STEALING A SKIRT
Three people have allegedly killed a 48 year old man in Chasefu district in Eastern Province.
And police in the area have detained two people suspected to be behind the killing while the third one is on the run.
Peter Nkhowani of Saonga village in Senior Chief Magodi’s area is alleged to have been beaten to death by the suspects, whose names have been withheld for investigation purposes.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Limpo Liywalii has confirmed the murder to the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Chasefu today.
Mr Liywalii said on 6th February,2023 police received a report from Stainley Nkhowani 42, that his elder brother Peter Nkhowani had allegedly been beaten by three people of the same village.
The Eastern Province Police chief explained that the deceased was earlier on 5th February suspected to have stolen a skirt in the neighborhood before he was killed.
Mr. Liywali said Mr Nkhowani who is now the deceased, accepted to have stolen the skirt due to fear of mob justice.
He said the deceased was later slapped by one of the suspects who later took him to the other two suspects where the trio started beating him with a hammer meal belt.
Mr. Liywalii said Nkhowani died at the scene of the crime on February 6 around 01:00 hours.
He disclosed that the deceased body was picked and deposited in Lundazi district Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Meanwhile, Mr. Liywalii said police have detained two suspects while a manhunt for another suspect who is on the run continues.
