KAMBWILI GETS BAIL

Former Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili has been granted bail by the Kasama Magistrate Court in a case where he is accused of using hate speech contrary to section 70 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offense are that on dates unknown, but between July 21 and August 8, 2021 in Kasama of Northern Province of the Republic of Zambia, the 53 year old politician allegedly willfully and unlawfully did express words of hatred and ridicule against the Tonga speaking because of their tribe and origin.

When the matter came up today for the explanation of the charge at the Kasama Magistrate Court, defense lawyers Chola Chama of Chola Chama Legal Practioners, made an application that Dr. Kambwili be granted bail as the offense he is charged with is bailable.

Resident Magistrate Samson Mumba granted Dr. Kambwili a K50, 000 bail in his own recognizance and two working sureties from credible institutions.

The state has since applied for the case to be adjourned to a later date as it waits for consent from the Director of Public Prosecutions-DPP.

July 7, 2022 has been set as the date for Mr. Kambwili to appear for mention.

And speaking to sympathizers upon his release, Dr. Kambwili who is vying for the Patriotic Front-PF Presidency, says he will not be intimidated by the UPND administration through arrests.

Dr. Kambwili says he does not understand why he was transported to Kasama District in Northern Province yet the offense he is accused of having committed was reported in Lusaka.
