CHRIS BROWN ESCAPES JAIL AFTER ATTACKING MUSIC PRODUCER WITH TEQUILA BOTTLE
American R&B superstar Chris Brown has avoided an immediate prison sentence in the United Kingdom after being sentenced over a violent nightclub attack involving a music producer.
The 37-year-old Grammy Award-winning singer was handed an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, by London’s Southwark Crown Court on Monday, 26 October 2026.
The case arose from a February 2023 incident at Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district, where Brown attacked music producer Abraham Diaw with a tequila bottle.
The court heard that Brown struck Diaw twice in the head with the bottle during the confrontation.
Brown pleaded guilty to affray, while more serious charges were dropped following his guilty plea.
During sentencing, Judge Tony Baumgartner emphasised that fame and commercial success did not place celebrities above the law.
However, the judge considered mitigating factors, including Brown’s guilty plea, charitable activities and personal circumstances, before deciding to suspend the sentence.
Brown’s lawyer told the court that the singer was deeply remorseful for the incident.
His associate and vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, also received a suspended prison sentence for his involvement.
Fans gathered outside the courthouse reportedly cheered as Brown walked free following the ruling.
The suspended sentence means the singer will not immediately serve time in prison, although he risks imprisonment if he commits another offence during the suspension period.
The case adds another chapter to the international star’s controversial legal history.
