Clearing agent attacked in motorbike taxi trap
A clearing agent in Nakonde was attacked last night in what he believes was a set up by an unrecognised motorbike taxi rider.
Felix Nonde was on his way home from work when he booked a motorbike taxi that was heading in the same direction.
Mr Nonde has told Chete FM News that the rider stopped to greet three unknown young men at the bridge before Ntindi Secondary School.
He said while on the bike, one of the criminals hit him in the back of the head with an object.
He added that the rider watched as he was mercilessly beaten. The attackers fled the scene when they saw a car approaching from distance.
“They stole my phone, K500, 551 dollars, ATM card and other IDs,” he said.
The attack comes just 11 days after the Zambian government banned unregistered cars and motorbikes from operating in the district after years of failed negotiations with the motorists.
Even under restrictions, some have continued to work. Over 20 riders have recently been arrested for riding illegally.
Mr Nonde who is also a trained teacher has urged people to only book taxis they are able to trace.
