CSOS URGE DEC CHIEF TO REMAIN STEAD FAST IN GRAFT FIGHT
By Patricia Male
Chapter One Foundation and The Non-Governmental Gender Organizations Coordinating Council is saddened that the recent circulation of photographic video alleging to be Drug Enforcement Commission Director General Mary Chirwa has the potential to undermine the ongoing fight against corruption by government.
In a joint statement, the CSOs note that while they may not have ascertained the true identity of the person in the circulating videos, this attempt to scandalize the persona of Ms. Chirwa in such a manner is not only inhuman but criminal and is meant to lower her credibility and assault her integrity in the minds of right-thinking citizens.
They also note that Ms. Chirwa is heading a very sensitive investigative wing and is currently investigating a number of cases related to the abuse of public funds hence it is clear that the pornographic videos being circulated are meant to divert public attention from the real issues of plunder of public resources currently under investigation.
Further, the CSOs say the videos are meant to undermine the credibility of Ms. Chirwa with the ultimate aim of disrupting the fight against corruption and have therefore urged the drug enforcement commission and Ms. Chirwa not to be deterred by this scheme by those with intent to subvert the course of justice.
