President Edgar Lungu who once said he would want to use developmental projects as a campaign tool, says it is unacceptable to delay government projects on account that the technical drawings provided by engineers are defective .

Lungu says government is losing money through constant variation of project due to defective technical designs, adding that he is disappointed with the engineering works on the Lufwanyama District Administration block which is under construction on the Copperbelt.

The President, who once accused government departments of corruption during tender processes, and of giving tenders to undeserving companies said engineers should help the government to save money by doing the right thing.

The President expressed sadness after he was informed that works on the project have delayed because the contractor was given defective technical designs by the Ministry of Infrastructure.

The Head of state said people blame his government and not engineers whenever the cost of a project goes up because of delays that can be avoided.

The President later inspected houses for Civil servant and was not happy with the works.

And Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Bright Nundwe said there is need for the provincial administration to be allowed to administer small projects.

He said the current situation were contracts are awarded in Lusaka is making it hard for the provincial administration to supervise the contractors. -ZNBC/ Zambian Eye
