DON’T NAME BUILDINGS AFTER YOURSELF WHEN IN OFFICE , IT’S ARROGANCE AND THE NAME WILL BE CHANGED WHEN YOU LEAVE OFFICE
When you’re in public office, don’t name buildings and infrastructure after yourself.
Let those that come many years after you appreciate what you did, and they will name something after you.
If you were a good leader people will want to remember you, and they will name something after you.
We have Levy Mwanawasa Hospital, KK International Airport, Simon Kapwepwe Airport, Bennie Mwinga Police Station, Daniel Munkombwe Toll Plaza etc.
These names will last for generations if not centuries because it’s the people who decided to name these buildings after these great sons of the soil.
But for the likes of Nathan Chanda Police Station, that was never going to last, even if he used funds from his own pocket to build it.
The same applies to ECL Mall, the name will be changed soon once the corruption that was obtaining at NAPSA is laid bare.
As for ruling party members, it’s important to follow procedure rather than just go and repaint the building with impunity.
A petition should have been delivered to Ministry of Home Affairs and Zambia Police Command to have the name changed and it would have been done in an orderly manner by the appropriate people.
That’s the right way to do it.
