DON’T PHOTOGRAPH THE 7 ELEPHANTS SPOTTED IN PEMBA, CHISEKESI – EXPERT WARNS

By Michael Nyumbu

KARIBA Area Management Unit Warden under the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Authority Alex Situmbeko has warned residents of Pemba and Chisekesi areas in Southern Province not to get close the seven elephants spotted in the two areas.

He says the elephants which were reportedly in Choma District on Thursday have now advanced and have reached Pemba and Monze Districts respectively.

Situmbeko warns residents of the two districts not to photograph the animals as the camera flash could annoy them and make them hostile.

He advises people to maintain a distance of about 500 to 1,000 thousand meters to avoid being hurt.

He further said the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Authority is following the animals to make sure they are under control.

Situmbeko also warned residents of Mazabuka to be watchful as some elephants have also been spotted in Munali Hills, however saying that the situation is under watch.
