Case for state led mining sector

Investors will never develop our country. They have never developed any country anywhere.

Their priority is to make profits. They therefore avoid all costs including avoiding to pay taxes.

They actually hire very smart people to just skim the system and avoid paying any taxes. They are not morally honest.

Today, copper is at all time high. It is projected to stay high for the next 30yrs! This is our time!

We can’t allow investors the front seat. Not this time. Let them take a back seat; allow the state to take controlling shares or outrightly own the mines.

We need the money over the next 30yrs to transition Zambia into a fully developed country with its citizens having all three meals per day, clean water, medicines in hospitals, and two cars per household.

All industries that support mining must also be revived. Its our time to die a little for Zambia, be greedy and selfish on behalf of Zambia over our minerals.

If we miss this chance, we will go down in history as the most reckless lot ever. Lets do right by the citizens.

The state has to lead and lead firmly because investors will squirm and complain until they realize how serious we are on this new trajectory.
