DRC PROPOSES BORDER LINE REVIEW AFTER DEADLY SHOOTOUT

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has proposed a review of its border demarcations with Zambia following the death of a Zambian National Service (ZNS) officer in a cross-border clash.

During a bilateral meeting in Ndola, DRC’s Minister of Interior, Security, Decentralisation, and Traditional Affairs, Jacquemin Shabani, highlighted the importance of reassessing the boundary lines to prevent future conflicts.

The minister has emphasized that the review could help avoid misunderstandings and further loss of life, like the one seen in Sunday’s tragic incident.

The altercation occurred when ZNS Staff Sergeant Corinthians Kaputa was killed in a shootout with DRC soldiers.

The conflict arose after Zambian soldiers intercepted smugglers, who fled into the DRC and falsely accused the Zambians of crossing the border.

Zambia’s Defence Minister Ambrose Lufuma proposed the formation of a joint task force aimed at strengthening border security and cooperation.

Both countries have signed a communique to solidify their commitment to peace and collaboration.
