DRIVER DIES, SIX PUPILS INJURED IN LUANGWA ACCIDENT

A DRIVER working for the Ministry of Education has died while six pupils have sustained injuries in a road traffic accident which occurred on Luangwa – Feira road in Luangwa District.

Justin Nchimunya aged 53 was driving a Toyota Land cruiser Registration number GRZ 779BV property of Ministry of Education.

Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale said Mr Nchimunya sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Luangwa Histrict Hospital.

He said the six who were injured are pupils at Feira Day Secondary School in Luangwa district.

“Two sustained serious injuries and were admitted to Katondwe Mission Hospital while four sustained minor injuries and were discharged after treatment.

The two pupils admitted were only identified as Kalunga Lumbwe and Elijah Zulu. There were 15 pupils on board the Landcruiser. Nine escaped unhurt,” he said.

Mr Mwale said the pupils were being driven to Luangwa Bridge Secondary School where they were expected to do some performances during the commissioning of the ZNBC transmitters for radio 1 and 2.

“The accident happened on September 15, 2023 around 13:00 hours after the driver, due to excessive speed, lost control of the motor vehicle and later overturned.

The body of the deceased is in Luangwa District Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial,” he said.
