ECZ TO COMMENCE VOTER REGISTRATION OF ELIGIBLE INMATES NEXT WEEK
The Electoral Commission of Zambia –ECZ- will next week commence the voter registration of eligible inmates in various correctional facilities countrywide ahead of the 2021 general election.

Addressing the media in Lusaka this morning, ECZ Chief Electoral Officer, Patrick Nshindano said the registration exercise in correctional facilities will commence on Wednesday, December 9th to 11th 2020 in all the 10 provinces.

And Mr. Nshindano announced that a total of 4 million, 321 thousand, 319 eligible voters have so far registered in the first, second and third phases of the process.

He said in the just ended third phase which came to an end on Wednesday, December 2nd 2020, a total of 1 million, 616 thousand, 893 voters were registered.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nshindano said out of the k674 million total budget submitted for the entire voter registration exercise, k527 million has been released with a balance of k147 million yet to be released.

Further, Mr. Nshindano said the commission is currently not considering an extension to the exercise and that the matter will only be looked into when the exercise comes to an end on December 12th 2020.
