EMMANUEL MBAMIKO SAYS SHOOTING OF ZNS OFFICER BY DRC SOLDIERS MAY NEGATIVELY IMPACT TRADE BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES

By Sanfrossa Mberi

Former Kitwe and District Chamber of Commerce, Trade and Industry President Emmanuel Mbamiko has warned that the recent shooting incident between Zambian and Congolese soldiers, which led to the death of a Zambia National Service-ZNS Officer in Ndola, could negatively impact trade between the two countries if not handled amicably.

Earlier this week, government announced the shooting of a ZNS Officer after intercepting a Zambian national attempting to smuggle mealie-meal into the DRC, which later resulted in the exchange of gunfire.

Commenting on this development, Mr. Mbambiko is worried that despite the Zambian and Congolese authorities engaging to resolve the matter using diplomatic means on Wednesday, nothing tangible has been communicated to the public on the way forward to prevent such occurrences.

Mr. Mbambiko is now calling for an independent thorough investigation into the incident to avert a reoccurrence and the disruption of business between the two countries.
