ETHIOPIA ESTABLISHES SIX-MONTH CARETAKER GOVERNMENT IN TIGRAY AMID RENEWED TENSIONS
Ethiopia’s federal government has established a six-month caretaker administration in the troubled Tigray region following renewed fighting and political tensions.
The interim administration has been tasked with restoring essential public services, supporting displaced communities and preparing for regional elections.
The development follows renewed military confrontations that have raised concerns about the future of the peace agreement signed in 2022
The agreement ended a devastating two-year conflict that claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and displaced large numbers of people.
Meanwhile, former fighters in Tigray have begun registering for reintegration into civilian life as part of efforts to promote stability.
However, continued tensions involving the Tigray People’s Liberation Front and neighbouring Eritrea have raised fears of further instability.
International observers have called for restraint and renewed dialogue to prevent another prolonged conflict.
