EXPORT OF GOATS TO SAUDI ARABIA STILL ON PAPER,MINISTER

By Flavior Kanungo

WE have not completely abandoned plans to export goats to Saudi Arabia, we are just working on modalities to improve certain things as observed by our counterpart, Livestock and fisheries Minister Makozo Chikote has said.

In 2020, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had offered Zambia a market to export 1 million goats per annum however the plan has not yet been actualized.

Mr Chikote explained the Government is working on sanitary measures raised by the technocrats from Saudi Arabia such as improving the quality of goats as well as enhance traceability records of animals.

He said until these measures are met, the export of goats will have to delay a bit.

“The technocrats from Saudi Arabia have given us measures that we have to meet before we can start trading with them and they are waiting to see how we will work around on ensuring that there is sanity in the goat industry,” Mr Chikote said.
