Fire erupts near Russian metallurgical plant after reported drone attack in Balakovo
An explosion followed by a fire was reported near the Balakovo Metallurgical Plant in Russia’s Saratov region overnight on October 14, amid reports of a Ukrainian drone attack on the industrial city.
Footage circulating online shows an explosion and a fire in the area near the large steelmaking facility. Local monitoring channels also reported widespread power outages following the overnight incident.
Saratov Governor Roman Busargin said a drone attack damaged several residential buildings in Balakovo and preliminarily reported one fatality.
The extent of the damage to the metallurgical plant remains unclear, and there has been no independent confirmation that the facility itself was directly hit.
