By Chembe Mbale

Former Chingola Central Member of Parliament MATHEW NKHUWA, who also served as Energy Minister under the Patriotic Front –PF- administration, has joined the United Party for National Development -UPND.

Speaking during a press briefing in Chingola, Mr. NKHUWA declared his support for President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA and the UPND Government.

He disclosed that he officially joined the ruling party on August 15, 2024.

Mr. NKHUWA said he had decided to step back from active politics following the PF’s defeat in the 2021 general election.

He said President HICHILEMA’s work ethic and leadership style have influenced his decision to join the UPND.

Mr. NKHUWA said the President has led the country with grace and hard work, demonstrating a commitment to all Zambians.

He maintained that his decision to join the ruling party is not motivated by personal gain.

Meanwhile, UPND Copperbelt Provincial Deputy Chairperson RICHARD KALUMBA urged Mr. NKHUWA to use his experience in government to support the party’s “Grow Zambia” agenda.

Mr. KALUMBA said the initiative requires the involvement of key stakeholders, including individuals with experience in public service.

UPND Chingola District Chairperson DOMINIC KAPALU said the party treated all members equally, regardless of when they joined.
