FREE SARAFINA NTHENGA
My fellow citizens, we are creating a very dangerous society for all of us. Our silences, our voices, our actions and lack of actions are all contributing towards a society in which all of us shall live.
Sarafina was arrested and is still in police cells today. She has not been taken to court yet but the police have continued to keep her in filthy cells. This against her rights as a citizen of this country. We cannot have a police service that violates people’s rights any time they want. Sarafina is a citizen of this country and a human being. Her rights must be respected even when we disagree with her. If she committed a crime, take her to the courts and let her defend herself.
I am appealing to the Zambia police that, yours is to protect the people not to violate them. This young lady you are keeping deserves the dignity of humanity that you are denying her right now. RELEASE HER or TAKE HER TO COURT. It is not justifiable to detain a suspect for this long and still deny them bail. Justice is not a commodity only the rich should afford.
Release Sarafina.
I am advised that she is at Kabwata Police Station but Sarafina’s home is in Kitwe, she was taken far from her relatives and detained in Lusaka. I am asking the good people of Lusaka to find some time to visit her there and share some hope with her.
