FROM SUPERSONIC CRUISE MISSILE TECHNOLOGY TO Su-35s: RUSSIA–IRAN DEFENCE COOPERATION ENTERS A NEW PHASE
Russia and Iran are drawing increasing attention as their military and defence cooperation expands across a range of advanced technologies, from combat aircraft and air-defence systems to reported missile development.
🚀 One of the most significant areas of reported cooperation involves supersonic cruise-missile technology. If such a programme reaches an operational stage, it could potentially provide Iran with a new high-speed strike capability. However, the current status and operational progress of the reported project remain unclear.
✈️ The Su-35 fighter jet remains one of the most closely watched elements of Russia–Iran defence cooperation. The advanced Russian combat aircraft could represent a major addition to Iran’s efforts to modernize its ageing air force.
🚁 The Mi-28NE attack helicopter could also expand Iran’s battlefield aviation capabilities, while the Yak-130 advanced trainer would help develop pilot training and support the transition to more sophisticated combat aircraft.
🛡️ Meanwhile, the Verba MANPADS could strengthen short-range air-defence capabilities, providing ground forces with a portable system designed to engage certain low-altitude aerial threats.
The growing list of reported capabilities points to a relationship that extends beyond a conventional arms transaction.
For Moscow, deeper military ties with Tehran could strengthen an important strategic partnership. For Iran, access to Russian defence technology could contribute to the modernization of several key areas of its armed forces.
🌍 The coming years may determine whether these reported projects develop into a far deeper and more operationally significant Russia–Iran defence partnership.
