Government Deceiving Residents with Manual Labor for Drainage Construction, Says Chama
Garden Park, Lusaka — Socialist Party’s aspiring candidate for Garden Park Ward, Andysen Chama, has called on the UPND government to accelerate drainage construction ahead of the impending rainy season. Chama highlighted the recurring issue of inadequate drainage systems, which has plagued Garden Park Ward residents for years without resolution.
“Year after year, the people of Garden Park Ward suffer due to poor drainage, and nothing substantial has been done,” Chama said. He criticized the use of Constituency Development Funds (CDF) for graveling roads without proper drainage systems, deeming it a waste of resources. “The gravel will be washed away by the rains without proper drainage,” he added.
Chama proposed the construction of a Bombay drainage system that would run through pylons from Chinika Ward to 7070 Road. This main drainage would then connect to smaller drains within the compound, effectively addressing the flooding issue. “Implementing this system would allow water to flow smoothly, solving the flooding problem once and for all,” Chama stated.
Furthermore, Chama expressed frustration over the use of manual labor for drainage construction, accusing the government of misleading the residents. “In this modern era, using picks and shovels instead of machinery to dig drainages is a clear attempt to deceive the people of Garden Park Ward into thinking progress is being made,” he said.
Chama’s comments underscore the urgent need for infrastructural improvements in Garden Park Ward, as residents brace for another challenging rainy season. The Socialist Party candidate’s call to action reflects the community’s growing impatience and demand for effective solutions from the government.
