GOVERNMENT ENGAGES SOUTH AFRICA OVER MBOWENI`S CONTINUED NEGATIVE STATEMENTS AGAINST ZAMBIA
By Leah Ngoma
Vice President Inonge Wina says government is engaging South Africa over the continued issuance of negative statements against Zambia by that country`s Finance Minister Tito Mboweni.
Mr Mboweni was recently quoted saying Zambia’s financial woes provided a cautionary tale and south Africa cannot afford to go down the same path.
But Mrs Wina told parliament during the vice president`s question time this morning that the matter is being handled diplomatically as Zambia values its cordial relations with south Africa which she says must be maintained.
She was responding to a question from Chimwemwe Member of Parliament Elias Mwila who wanted to know what diplomatic efforts are being taken to curtail Mr Mboweni from issuing negative statements against Zambia.
In August this year, Mr Mboweni in one of his tweets also promised to mobilise if not given reasons why the former Central Bank Governor Denny Kalyalya was fired by president Lungu.
