GOVERNMENT REASSURES NATION AFTER EXTENDED TALKS WITH CIVIL SOCIETY COALITION

Lusaka… Friday November 28, 2025 – Government has described its engagement with the Oasis Forum as “productive,” following a seven-hour meeting held between President Hakainde Hichilema and leaders of the civil society coalition.

According to a statement issued by President Hichilema, the administration views open dialogue as an essential tool for resolving national challenges.

He noted that Zambia’s diversity naturally leads to differing opinions on national issues, adding that such differences are acceptable in a democratic society.

During the meeting, the President emphasised that the ongoing constitutional review process should not become a source of division among citizens.

He reiterated that all reforms pursued since his administration assumed office have been aimed at improving the wellbeing of Zambians, with a commitment to ensuring fair and equitable distribution of resources.

President Hichilema further expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Oasis Forum, particularly Archbishop Ignatius Chama, for honouring the invitation to engage in what he described as meaningful dialogue.

He said the government was encouraged by the forum’s willingness to continue discussions in the interest of the nation.

  1. I have to admit it, this was a positive initiative by Hakainde to put dialogue on the table. Whether this is part of his wider scheme of imingalato remains to be seen. What is certain is the unmovable demand by citizens, except of course our brothers from the South, to withdraw this bill 7 immediately.
Nonetheless, Hakainde has shown maturity in entertaining an audience he knew would tell him unpleasant and uncomfortable truths. While in opposition, he promised us weekly radio dial in sessions so that he could interact with citizens. Nearly 5 years into office, he has conducted none. Instead, he has withdrawn into an impenetrable cocoon surrounded by praise singers. And he finds comfort in that. After the Chingola baptism, he has realised that there is genuine discontent amongst citizens, except of course his own people and cronies who are directly benefitting from his misrule.

When the energy board of directors, which was announced yesterday, comprises of 10 directors, all from his tribe, then we know there is something very wrong.

The path to correcting wrongs is a long one for Hakainde. But every journey starts with a single step. Today, he took that step. I hope that tomorrow, like we have seen many times with this man, he will not take two steps back.

    REJECT TRIBALISM, CORRUPTION AND OPPRESSION.

    VOTE FOR CHANGE IN 2026.

  2. I have not known how people concluded that the majority of the people of our country don’t want bill 7.I thought a very large number of people participated in giving submissions country wide signifying their willingness for the good progress in achievement of coming up with a constitution with no queries and new establishment of constituencies through delimitations as we have seen how vast and densely populated some constituencies are.The comparisons of bill 7 and bill 10 still remains the cause of this argument of constitution making process.

    • Now you can understand the story of ka Nshaba kamozi kama ononga tonse mukamwa (one pill of ground nut spoils all in the mouth).
Just very few individuals of less than 100 in number are busy increasing the volume creating discomfort to the whole nation.
