GOVERNMENT SHOULD STOP PLAYING GAMES WITH THE MINING SECTOR  – KALABA

… we need to start looking at what the mining sector can do to improve our country’s GDP.

LUSAKA, TUESDAY, AUGUST 19, 2025 [SMART EAGLES]

CITIZENS First President Harry Kalaba says the mining sector if handled well can help improve the country’s Gross Domestic Product GDP and also contribute to clearing off Zambia’s debt.

Speaking when featured on HOT FM’S radio programme this morning, Mr. Kalaba said the UPND Government should stop playing games with the one’s running the mining sector and look at what gains the country can accrue from its minerals.

Mr. Kalaba said it is the Citizens First party’s policy that the mining sector can play a critical role in developing the country.

“We need to end games in the mining sector. UNIP showed us  for the first time how to end those games. As CF we are very clear about the mining sector because it can help revamp our GDP and this can only happen if we begin taking the mining industry seriously,” Mr. Kalaba said.

“Why are we failing to end financial slippages in the mining industry, it’s because there are people talking in background with players in the mining industry and want to benefit at the expense of Zambians. It’s high time we put a strong foothold on the mining sector and stop playing games with the ones running the mining industry and start looking at what the mines can do for our country, ” The CF leader said.

And Mr. Kalaba said there is need to diversify the mining industry and stop looking at copper as the sole mineral resource that the country is endowed with.

“Zambia should take advantage of its cobalt and begin talking to countries like South Korea that are running Samsung, so that it begins making batteries for them and as CF this is what we shall explore aggressively because Cobalt is much more expensive than copper but we dont talk about it,” Mr. Kalaba said.

  1. For a man aspiring to become president of this country, his level of ignorance on many issues is scary. He should know that when he is going on air to talk about issues, he should have all the information on the topic at hand to avoid looking ignorant, but alas, he exposes his ignorance most of the time he speaks. Let me enlighten the man on the contribution of mining sector to our economy right now. I’m sure he does not know that the sector was the largest taxpayers for the year 2023 and 2024 and it is projected to still be the largest even in 2025, despite the sector only making up just about12% of the country’s economic activity, so how much does he want to sector to contribute to the economy? Such kind of thinking is what almost killed the sector in the previous administration where they wanted to milk the sector to the bone.

  2. The registry clerk at the Registry at Cabinet office,
Tell how you would diversify the mining industry specifically, mentioning
the strategies and methods of doing so. Diversification in itself would never be a solution mr harry. Talk about substantial actions that would differ in the
way the mining industry be run as opposed to the present situation. No one is limiting the mining industry to copper alone and that is why Government is talking about orderly mining of gold and other minerals. Dont just talk because you feel people must hear about kalaba, no. Talk sense from an informed view and not like trash from a semi illiterate registry clerk. Better still, find a few people who experts and qualified on different sectors to be advising you. Make sure you dont allow them to let you yap without their clearance to do so. Your ineptness silhoutes through and becomes apparent each time you strive so hard to look knowledgeable.

  3. Its people like harry kalaba who dolika banda is is refering to as not serious and committed leadership. Dolika is afraid that if left to HH alone to tackle these illiterates who are never serious, they might interrupt the process and the country could slip back to Kalaba levels.

Next time kalaba appears on TV and radio, please ask him specific approaches of how he would run government . He should offer workable solutions not just hearsay claims that the mines are not paying taxes.
Why and how does Bushiri contribute to our taxes from his copperbelt mines? Are you a beneficiary harry? If so much how tax does bushiri or yourself pay from the mines?
Did you pay for air ticket you got from a travel agent instead of waiting for Government to procure one for you last time you were a minister. If you were a President and a minister did what you used to do, how would you deal with such a minister?

  4. Kalaba, as your name suggests, you are full of hyperbolic ideas, if you get what I mean, which I very much doubt. In other words you are living in a fantasy world
