GOVERNMENT TO ACTIVATE MOU FOR 8 KILOMETER CANAL FROM SHAMGOMBO

Infrastructure, Housing, and Urban Development Minister CHARLES MILUPI says government will activate a Memorandum of Understanding -MoU- signed with Angola years back to construct an 8-kilometer canal from Shangombo into that country.

Mr. MILUPI says the MoU aims to facilitate the construction of the canal, marking the third access point into Angola created by Government in the last three years.

He says the second access into Angola is being established through the construction of the Mutanda-Mwinulunga, Ikelengi-Jimbe road, and the Tapo-Kalabo-Sikongo road.

Mr. MILUPI says the Zambia -Angola border is the second longest at 1100 kilometers and yet lacked proper access for many years.

He adds that the third access point is the Lobito Corridor, a railway line connecting the port of Lobito in Angola to Zambia.

Speaking in an interview with ZNBC’s MASAUSO MKWAYAYA in Angola, Mr. MILUPI said the three access points have been strategically planned to create export and import routes expected to drive economic growth.
