Former Zambia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Emmanuel Mwamba has cautioned government against the reliance on the international Monetary Fund-IMF- bailout package and foreign investments for the success of the 2022 national budget.

Ambassador Mwamba says there is need to remember that Zambia’s high unemployment rate and the current economic woes can be traced from the privatization that took place in the early 1990’s resulting from the country’s relationship with the IMF and foreign investors.

Speaking when he featured on the Tuesday edition of “Let the People Talk Programme” on Phoenix FM, Mr Mwamba observes that despite containing good proposals, the suggested solutions in the 2022 national budget are worrying as they point to the fact that government is relying on the IMF and foreign investments.

He since proposed to government to consider finding home grown solutions to the country’s challenges.
