GRZ GRABS DESKS DONATED BY MIKALILE TO PRIVATE SCHOOLS

Some Private School Owners in Mazabuka are demanding for answers as to why the Mazabuka District Education Board Office is trying to reposes furniture that was donated to their institutions by Mikalile Furniture Company in 2019.

The complainants who feared being named, say the DEBS has given them a deadline to surrender the furniture by Friday the 18th of November, despite them offering to pay cash to keep them.

The School Administrators have told Byta FM News that the items include six chairs, two tables and two drawers, which they received along with about seven other schools during the Patriotic Front regime.

The Administrators are questioning where the DEBS will take the chairs considering that they have grown old with use.

They add that schools will be badly affected if the furniture is repossessed, saying they gave away their schools’ old furniture after receiving the donation.

The school owners are demanding that the Education Board stop victimizing them, saying private schools are partners in development equal to public school.

In a letter attributed to Mazabuka District Commissioner Oliver Mulomba dated 11th November, 2022 and leaked to Byta FM, the Mazabuka District Education Board has been given authority to reposes the Mikalile Furniture which was distributed to private schools in Mazabuka in 2020.

The letter is in response to a request the District Education Board wrote to the District Commissioner’s office, seeking authority to retrieve the said furniture.

All involved private schools were advised to cooperate.
