COURT UPDATE | Heavy Security at Lusaka High Court as Mundubile, Makebi Seek Constitutional Bail
Security has been tightened in and around the Lusaka High Court ahead of today’s hearing of a constitutional bail application by opposition figures Brian Mundubile, Makebi Zulu and 17 others.
The 19 applicants are challenging their continued detention over alleged treason, sedition and terrorism-related offences linked to a suspected militia group.
In their application against Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha and other respondents, the suspects argue that prolonged detention without trial violates their constitutional rights.

They maintain that ongoing investigations cannot justify indefinite detention and want the court to order their release or grant bail on reasonable conditions pending trial.
The applicants are also seeking a declaration that their continued detention is unconstitutional, citing their right to be tried within a reasonable time or released.
The hearing comes amid heightened political attention surrounding the case, with the court expected to consider the applicants’ arguments for release.
