HICHILEMA HAS HIJACKED TRADITIONAL CEREMONIES AND HE IS TURNING THEM INTO UPND CAMPAIGN RALLIES BY DEFAULT

There is unwritten rule and consensus amongst Zambians that traditional ceremonies should be devoid of politics and be politically neutral to encourage the broadest participation of our citizens, but lately Hichilema has hijacked all our traditional ceremonies for his political benefit.

We encourage our traditional authorities to guard against the abuse and exploitation of traditional cultural ceremonies from dangerously desperate politicians who have lost the argument for remaining in government.

It is increasingly becoming very difficult for most of our citizens to freely participate in traditional ceremonies as Mr Hichilema and his UPND have literally hijacked the shows.

Our appeal to our traditional authorities is that traditional ceremonies must remain non partisan to accommodate the broader participation of their subjects and citizens from across the country.

Traditional ceremonies shouldn’t be used for purposes of posturing and demonstrating populist contests ahead of the 2026 elections.

There is an agreed moratorium in place that political regalia’s shouldn’t be worn during traditional ceremonies to avoid provoking violence and confusion by the various political groupings in attendance.

In a nutshell we should all denounce and frown on this behaviour being spearheaded by Mr. Hichilema and his UPND of turning traditional ceremonies into UPND campaign rallies by default.

This is shameful and is taking away dignity and respect for our traditional authorities.
