Homeland Security Investigations agents raided the house of Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar on Monday morning, ostensibly over a “criminal investigation” into Omar’s immigration papers.
Trump has previously called for Omar to be investigated and baselessly accused her of committing immigration fraud – and now his goons are carrying it out for him.
A Somali immigrant and proud progressive Muslim, Omar has long been subjected to Trump’s repulsive bigotry and hatred. He commonly insults her at his rallies, accusing her of outrageous lies like marrying her brother and faking her immigration documents.
Make no mistake – Trump is opening the door to using the federal government to harass, intimidate, or potentially even arrest Democrats, and he’s targeting Ilhan Omar because he knows there’s a contingent of pro-Israel Democrats who will happily throw her to the wolves over her opposition to Israeli genocide in Gaza.
But targeting Ilhan is just the beginning.
Soon it’ll be other Democrats, and unless we band together and fight back against this, his fascist impulses will just get stronger and stronger until half of Congress is sitting in a federal prison.
