House Dems Investigate Trump for Consulting Grok on Maduro Capture

House Democrats are now probing President Trump’s use of Grok during planning for the January 2026 military operation that captured Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro.

The inquiry stems from a December 2025 Oval Office meeting where Trump, with Elon Musk present, asked Grok how Venezuelans might react to Maduro’s removal.

Grok described Maduro as a repressive and deeply unpopular strongman whose ouster many Venezuelans would likely celebrate. Trump reportedly called the AI response ingenious.

Democrats Jamie Raskin and Robert Garcia have demanded that the administration preserve Trump’s AI chats as presidential records under the Presidential Records Act and provide a briefing by November 11. They frame the request as oversight into private AI tools shaping foreign policy without congressional input.

The facts undercut the outrage. Maduro has ruled Venezuela as a socialist autocrat for years, driving economic collapse, mass emigration, and repression.

Grok’s assessment aligned with longstanding reality rather than inventing a narrative.

Trump sought a quick, unfiltered read on public sentiment ahead of a high-stakes Delta Force operation that involved months of Pentagon planning and on-the-ground intelligence. Using advanced AI for additional input is a practical step, not a scandal.
