HOWARD KUNDA CALLS FOR MEASURES AIMED AT CUSHIONING IMPACT OF LOOMING SECOND DROUGHT

By Leah Ngoma

The Zambia Wake-Up Party is calling for urgent measures aimed at cushioning the impact of the looming second drought which threatens the country’s food security.

Party President Howard Kunda says as Zambia faces the challenges posed by climate change, it is imperative that the country take proactive measures to protect people, secure food supplies, and sustain the economy.

In a statement, Mr Kunda is urging the government to act swiftly and decisively by prioritizing investing in areas with normal rainfall by channeling significant resources toward agricultural activities in regions experiencing normal rainfall.

He says this includes providing adequate inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and irrigation systems to maximize productivity in these areas.

Mr Kunda says the government must also fast-track programs aimed at water harvesting, including the construction of dams and reservoirs, to ensure water availability for both agriculture and domestic use.

He notes that investing in drought-resistant crops and modern farming techniques should also be prioritized among other measures.

  1. Mr. Kunda says “Party President Howard Kunda says as Zambia faces the challenges posed by climate change, it is imperative that the country take proactive measures to protect people, secure food supplies, and sustain the economy”

The question Mr. Kunda doesnt answer is how?
We love to make and give direction but fail to state how you expect Government to do it. A common thread with the our opposition parties.
Yes, very oblivious to the constraints that government is going through, but want to make and give direction.
