ILHAN OMAR SAYS EARLY MORNING RAID FREAKED HER OUT AFTER AGENTS SERVED WARRANT AT HER DC HOME

Federal agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant at Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C. home at 6 a.m. on October 12 as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into alleged immigration fraud. The probe involves questions about paperwork filed by her late father during her childhood citizenship process, including potential false statements related to her age.

Omar gave her first public reaction in an interview with MS NOW. The full exchange captured in the post reads as follows:

Ilhan Omar: “Well, I mean, you don’t show up to somebody’s house that early in the morning unless you’re trying to freak them out. And, you know, it obviously did freak all of us out. I only had two and a half hours of sleep when they came, you know, pounding on the doors.”

“I’d been traveling, so I got in like 1:30, 2:00. I think I went to bed like 3, 3:30. And so it was, you know, trying to figure out, like, if you’re dreaming this weird thing that’s happening. But they basically surrounded the house. They were pounding on the back door and the front door. And, you know, we were screaming. We were coming down. We were in bedrooms upstairs trying to put on clothes and, you know, trying to run down before they broke the door.”

MS NOW: “Did you think it was intruders? Did you? What did you think when you heard the pounding on the door and the voices outside?”

Ilhan Omar: “I thought something was on fire. I thought something was happening to the neighbors. Like, it sounded like an urgent evacuation sort of situation. Again, like I said, I only had, you know, maybe two, two and a half hours of sleep. And so it took us a while to figure out what was actually happening even after we opened the door.”

The Department of Justice has confirmed the search was part of a legitimate federal criminal investigation. Omar has described the raid as an effort to intimidate her. Early-morning warrant service is a standard practice when investigators aim to secure documents and electronic devices before they can be altered or removed. Her account focuses on the hour of the arrival and the disruption to her sleep while the underlying investigation continues.
