IRANIAN FISHERMEN REPORTEDLY DISCOVER HUNDREDS OF iPHONES FLOATING IN STRAIT OF HORMUZ

Iranian fishermen have reportedly recovered hundreds of iPhones and other valuable goods from the Strait of Hormuz following the sinking of a cargo vessel in the strategic waterway.

The Singapore-flagged container ship, GFS Pride, reportedly sank on October 14, 2026, after sustaining damage and catching fire, sending part of its cargo into the sea.

Reports circulating online suggest that local fishermen rushed to the area in small boats to collect merchandise, including mobile phones, perfumes and other expensive products.

All 21 crew members aboard the vessel were reportedly evacuated safely.

The incident has attracted widespread attention on social media, with videos appearing to show boxes of iPhones and luxury perfurmes floating in the water.

However, the authenticity of some of the circulating footage has been questioned, and the exact number of phones allegedly recovered remains unverified.

According to reports, some fishermen attempted to tow floating shipping containers towards the shore, while others searched for valuable items among the debris.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claim the vessel struck a naval mine after entering an unauthorised shipping route. However, maritime reports indicate that the ship was hit by an unidentified projectile.

The sinking comes amid escalating attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping routes.

While the reported discovery of expensive goods has generated excitement online, the incident also highlights the growing dangers facing international maritime trade as tensions in the Middle East continue.
