James Comer Demands Ilhan Omar Explain Her Real Name, Age, and Family Ties in Congress or Face Censure and Removal
House Oversight Chairman James Comer went on The Benny Show and laid out a straightforward challenge to Rep. Ilhan Omar amid questions about her identity, citizenship paperwork, and background.
Host Benny Johnson pressed the point with sharp sarcasm about the left’s obsession with “correct” names: “Congress should change her name to Ilhan Nur Said Elmi? Do you think that should be something that like—those are—and I’m only asking out of respect, you see, we’re very woke on this program, Mr. Chairman, and we know that preferred pronouns are very important, right? Gotta use the right name, you gotta use the correct name. And Democrats are going on and on, they always demand that we use preferred pronouns, and her preferred—her correct pronouns are Ilhan Nur Said Elmi.”
Comer did not play along. He said Omar should walk into the well of the House the first day back in the lame duck session and answer basic questions in front of the entire Congress: “What she should do is the first day we come back in the lame duck session, she should go into the well in front of the entire Congress and explain who she is, what her real name is, how old she is, whether or not her family was involved in a fraudulent business scheme.
And if she’s innocent and all that, she should want to do that. And I think we’ll all yield her as much time as she wants. That should be what should happen. If she doesn’t do that, then I think Congress needs to begin a process of censure at the least, removal, you know, at best.”
Court filings have already identified her as Ilhan Nur Said Elmi a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar. Longstanding claims about a possible sham marriage involving a family member, inconsistent details on age and family history, and ongoing federal scrutiny of her immigration records have never been fully resolved in public. Democrats who lecture everyone else about using the “right” name and pronouns have shown zero interest in applying the same standard here.
Comer’s demand is simple: if the allegations are baseless, Omar should welcome the chance to clear them up on the record with unlimited time. If she refuses, Congress has the duty to protect its own integrity through censure or stronger action. The questions about who she is, how old she is, and what her family was involved in are not going away.
