‘JAY JAY’ BANDA’S WIFE FINED K6,000 FOR CAUSING DEATH
The Chipata High Court has fined former Petauke Central Member of Parliament EMMANUEL JAY BANDA’s wife MUKUKA MUMBA, six thousand kwacha for causing death by dangerous driving.
Chipata resident Judge MERCY MAKUBALO fined Ms. MUMBA after she pleaded guilty to one count of causing death by dangerous driving.
Judge MAKUBALO ruled that the fine should be paid forthwith or in default six months imprisonment.
She also suspended her driver’s licence for six months.
According to facts presented by State advocate YVONNE NACHANDE, Ms MUMBA of Ibex Hill township in Lusaka caused the death of BLESSINGS CHANDA aged 5, in Chipata’s Madzimoyo area on the Great East Road on June 1, 2022.
The convict who was driving a Range Rover registration number BAR 3626 lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed and hit the pedestrian who had already crossed the road.
In mitigation, Legal Aid Counsel FIDELIS MWAULUKA said the convict was the first offender who readily pleaded guilty.
He said as a sign of contrition, the convict contributed 6,000 Kwacha towards the funeral and later 20,000 Kwacha to cushion the family from the loss.
Judge MAKUBALO said she considered the mitigation but noted that the vehicle had no insurance cover and road tax which are aggravating circumstances in the matter.
She said when people disregard laws, it leads to anarchy.
Life is cheap. Sure Six Pin for the life of another human being? Even a coffin is more expensive that that.
The Legislators should rethink some of these fines. No wonder reckless driving is so rife in Zambia.
This ruling is soooo penicketty. Monga nimu nursery school sure!
Incredible! This judge must be investigated! What is she really up to? For a human being and she makes a casual fine just like that!! I hope Jay Jay’s brother didn’t ask nga’ngas to bewitch the judge to make such a ridiculous judgement. This is total rubbish!
Ridiculous, where do these people train from? Nauseating!!! It even has to do with the same idi-ot who believes in witchcraft. I hope the sounds of the young soul visit you in the night when you are alone
It is very sad this incident happened, and that a young life was lost.
But the law is the law, and the judge acted within the confines of that law.
Some people would want the law not to apply just because it was JJ’s wife involved. That is how biased some praise singers are. They wanted JJ’s wife to face treason or some other charge which would result in a lengthy prison sentence. But they should realise that the law is the law. They have become used to illegality and animal farm laws.
God bless Captain Ibrahim Traore, a proper president. A visionary and template of what an African president should be. Not these fake conmen African presidents that keep stashing dirty money abroad. Useless old presidents.
Vote wisely in 2026.
Have young seen now you haters, especially Indigo Tyrol. That is why the only true Zambian president after Levy Mwanawasa said the laws of this country new a complete review but you were all howling that he was the lacuna!!! Tell your a Zakeyo Lubinda that these are what HH said are the lacunas. Muletekanya…
The ruling doesn’t match the sentence.
The ruling follows the statutes of the country. Start supporting progressive ideas not just empty politicking. I echo it: There are serious lacunas in the laws of Zambia. We need to revisit all of them one by one. Font argue, you’ve seen one here where a child’s life costs K6,000.00. A coffin is K10,000.00 and it’s just planks and soft padding. So life is cheaper than wood in Zambia and Kalaba says we don’t need any constitutional amendment..really Mr. Potential President???
The K6000 can not and never be a deterrent in any way and form. The judgement was very subjective. A need to revisit the law book arises immediately folks.
