Early Thursday, the Zambia police intercepted a group of protesting teachers who were headed to State House to meet Republican President Hakainde Hichilema over what they described as delayed placement on the payroll.

Speaking to Africaworld Reports correspondent Joshua Illya, a protesting teacher only identified as Chilekwa said the teachers felt betrayed as they have been working without payments since the year 2017.

“It’s not longer funny at all; government has to put us on payroll. We have been teaching for free from 2017 when we got recruited under the PF government and upto now, no one has been put on the payroll. President HH should act. We voted for him to have the desired change.”

Protesting teachers were recruited in 2017 under the secretively regional and nepotistic Patriotic Front government’s latent employment policy which saw many Zambians without relatives in high places roaming streets without landing on jobs.

Meanwhile, government is yet to issue a statement on the same.
